Verizon reported that its 14 January 2026 outage was resolved at 10:15 p.m. Eastern Time. Its dated network update advised customers still having trouble to restart their devices. That is a historical notice, not evidence of an active nationwide outage today.
A phone showing SOS or lacking normal service can have more than one explanation. The display alone cannot confirm a carrier-wide incident, its cause or its expected duration.
Check the current service information
Use Verizon’s official support and account tools for the present issue. Confirm the affected location and device rather than assume another person’s report applies to you. A social-media spike can indicate concern without establishing the exact scope.
Do not reset account credentials, delete an eSIM or factory-reset a phone simply because an unverified post recommends it. Follow the provider’s instructions for your device and circumstances.
Keep the January notice dated
The following day’s Verizon update announced an account-credit process for affected customers. Do not assume that old process remains open, that every account qualified or that an unsolicited message claiming a refund is genuine.
Open the official app or support route directly. Avoid sharing verification codes, passwords or payment details in response to unexpected messages.
Use a suitable communication alternative
If ordinary service is unavailable, follow current local emergency guidance and device instructions. Wi-Fi or another available communication route may be useful where supported, but no alternative should be assumed to work in every situation.
Our outage-map guide considers a different infrastructure problem and the value of backup communication. Keep essential contact details accessible if internet access is also disrupted.
Avoid inventing a technical cause
An observed failure, a provider statement and a confirmed engineering explanation are separate levels of evidence. Do not attribute an outage to a software update, attack or equipment fault unless a reliable dated source establishes it.
For account-related changes, our Google email guide shows a similar principle: use official instructions and check availability for your own account. A service article is most useful when it distinguishes confirmed history from the troubleshooting steps appropriate now.
