San Francisco defeated Chicago 42–38 at Levi’s Stadium on December 28, 2025. The game ended with the Bears threatening to score, not with a comfortable 49ers cushion or a routine rebuilding-team defeat.
The Bears’ official recap records Chicago reaching the San Francisco two-yard line with four seconds left. Caleb Williams’ final pass fell incomplete, preserving the result.
Purdy contributed in two ways
Brock Purdy threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more. His official 2025 game log records 303 passing yards, one interception and 28 rushing yards for this fixture.
Five touchdowns accounted for is not the same as five touchdown passes. That distinction is important when a highlight title or abbreviated summary compresses the performance.
Chicago kept answering
The official scoring summary includes receiving touchdowns by Luther Burden and Colston Loveland, alongside other Chicago scores. Individual contributions should be identified rather than replaced with an unnamed group of promising rookies.
A high combined score does not prove that both defences used a particular scheme or that every unsuccessful possession resulted from poor effort. Those explanations require a closer review of the plays.
The last possession mattered
The final margin was four points, and Chicago had an opportunity to reverse it. That is why the closing sequence belongs alongside Purdy’s production in an account of the game.

Our sports analytics guide explains the broader distinction: a player’s measured output, a team’s result and a prediction about future games are three different things.
