The 2026 opening schedule is an archive now. Use it to identify the matchup, then consult the completed game page for actual lineups and results. Do not present a March preview as a live event listing in October.
The MLB opening reference identifies the opening games. The compact list below omits start times so it does not confuse coverage windows, first pitch and later changes.
Opening Night and the main slate
On 25 March, the Yankees visited the Giants. The main 26 March matchups were Pirates at Mets; White Sox at Brewers; Nationals at Cubs; Twins at Orioles; Red Sox at Reds; Angels at Astros; Tigers at Padres; Rays at Cardinals; Rangers at Phillies; Diamondbacks at Dodgers; and Guardians at Mariners.
On 27 March, the remaining opening matchups were Athletics at Blue Jays, Royals at Braves and Rockies at Marlins. Home-team order matters: “at” identifies the host, not the predicted winner.
Dates are not interchangeable
A club’s first game and first home game can occur on different days. Our opening-date explainer covers that distinction. For a grouped list of clubs, use the opening team guide.
A schedule released months earlier may differ from an event-week listing. Keep the source date visible and use the relevant final record when checking what actually took place.
Add time zones carefully
If building a personal archive or viewing diary, record the time zone with the time. Convert it for your location only after identifying whether the listing is for first pitch or programme coverage. In India, some US evening games fall on the next calendar date.
The viewing guide addresses the separate issue of broadcast rights. A fixture in a package’s promotional calendar is not proof of unrestricted access.
Do not turn a fixture list into a result sheet
Probable pitchers, projected lineups and predictions are pregame information. For the final participants and score, follow the completed game page. Our matchup-reading guide explains why one opening result also tells only a small part of a season.
A useful archive is clear about what it records. It need not imply every detail is current or that opening-day arrangements automatically repeat the following year.
