All 30 MLB teams began their 2026 campaigns during opening week, but they did not all play their first game on one date. A team list should identify that grouping rather than assume “Opening Day” means the same schedule for every club.
This is a historical guide. It does not describe upcoming games or a future season’s opening arrangements.
The first pair
The Yankees and Giants supplied the 25 March opening matchup. That standalone pairing was different from the main slate the following day. Our opening-date guide explains the labels and how home openers can differ again.
The main 26 March group
The clubs in the main slate were the Angels, Astros, Brewers, Cardinals, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Guardians, Mariners, Mets, Nationals, Orioles, Padres, Phillies, Pirates, Rangers, Rays, Reds, Red Sox, Tigers, Twins and White Sox.

The remaining opening group
The Athletics, Blue Jays, Braves, Marlins, Rockies and Royals opened on 27 March. The Royals’ dated roster announcement provides one direct club example from that group.
These dates should not be confused with a later day when every team was scheduled to be in action. Nor does a first game away from home become a home opener because the season has begun.
Verify the detail you need
For historical research, use final game records to identify actual players and results. A projected roster can change before play. If your interest is television access, use the viewing guide and the rights information for that exact event and location.
For interpreting performances, the opening-week matchup guide separates a compelling first game from evidence about the full campaign. A short list is most useful when it keeps these different questions separate rather than repeat every detail on every page.
